Meals in your calendar

See your planned meals in Google, Apple or Outlook Calendar.

Two ways to do it

Pick one. Using both puts every meal in your calendar twice.

  1. Calendar Link: a private link any calendar app can subscribe to (Google, Apple, Outlook). Easy, but the calendar app decides how often to look again. Apple and Outlook are usually quick; Google can take half a day or more.
  2. Connect Google Calendar: Dish Cycle puts the meals in your Google calendar itself, so changes show up within seconds. Google only, and the household owner sets it up.

Option 1: the Calendar Link

  1. Open the menu (gear), Preferences, and find Calendar Link.
  2. Tap Google Calendar to subscribe in Google. For Apple or Outlook, tap Copy, then add a calendar from a web address in that app and paste the link.
  3. Your meals from today onward appear, and the calendar keeps itself up to date.

Anyone who has the link can see your meals. If it gets shared by mistake, tap Reset Link: the old one stops working.

Option 2: Connect Google Calendar

The household owner does this once. It sits in Preferences, under Google Calendar.

  1. Open the menu (gear), Preferences, and under Google Calendar tap Connect.
  2. Choose your Google account.
  3. You may see "Google hasn't verified this app". That is expected for now. Tap Advanced, then Continue.
  4. Tick both boxes (see your list of calendars; view and edit events), then Continue. Dish Cycle needs both.
  5. Back in Dish Cycle, open Preferences again and pick the calendar to keep your meals in. A shared calendar works well.
  6. Your planned meals appear in that calendar as all-day events.

While the app is still being reviewed by Google, Google may disconnect it about once a week. If Preferences says to connect again, tap Connect again; it takes a few seconds.

How it stays up to date

  1. Add a meal to a day, move it, rename it, or take it off the plan, and the Google event follows.
  2. Only meals from today onward change. Past days stay as they were.
  3. Tap Update now in Preferences to send everything again.
  4. Dish Cycle only touches the events it made, never your other events.

Switching or turning it off

  1. Change calendar picks a different one; the events move there.
  2. Disconnect removes the events Dish Cycle made from the calendar and drops its permission. Nothing else in your Google account changes.
  3. If you also subscribed to the Calendar Link in Google, remove that subscription so meals do not show twice.
